‘University on the Air’ radio program to bring education to more learners in Davao region and neighbor provinces
As schools around the country utilize the Internet to hold classes, the University of Mindanao turns as well to more traditional ways of information dissemination as it is set to launch University on the Air, an educational AM bandwidth radio program available on 819kHz DXUM.
It is in partnership with the University of Mindanao Broadcast Network, and audiences can tune in from 6 to 8pm Monday to Friday; and from 7:30-9:30pm on Saturdays beginning August 27.
Modeled as a supplemental education program with an initial focus on Philippine History, Art Appreciation, Ethics, and the Life and Works of Dr. Jose Rizal; University on the Air is a response to the challenge to schools nationwide to utilize every avenue in delivering education to a wider audience.
“The UM On the Air shall be one of the university's instruction delivery in the hopes to cater to students in the far-flung areas which do not have decent internet connectivity,” said Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, Senior vice president for Academics.
The program was borne from the instruction of UM president and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr. to utilize all current technologies available to the university in implementing its ‘hybrid mode’ of instruction delivery, which includes e-learning through email, SMS, and group chats; m-learning through smartphones, tablets or mobile devices; c-learning or correspondence learning where the SIM/SDL Manual can be picked up or arranged by courier; and residential/F2F mode depending on quarantine conditions; and now the radio program.
