UM reaps awards at 30th PACUCOA General Assembly and Awarding Ceremonies

The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) handed 10 awards and citations to the University of Mindanao last Monday, Dec. 2 for exemplary academic performance. It has once again received the distinction of having the most number of accredited programs in Region XI, and second nationwide. PACUCOA also awarded the university first place for Best Practices of its Community Extension Office, which is in charge of facilitating the social responsibilities of the school, such as anti-illegal drug seminars, donation drives, tree planting activities, and adopt-a-community projects. UM was also cited for reobtaining Autonomous Status for the main campus, and the Digos campus obtaining Autonomous Status for the first time. The Tagum campus meanwhile was also recognized for obtaining Deregulated Status. These grants from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) mean that the university has full capacity to operate on its own policies and formulate its own curriculum. As per CHED Memorandum Circular No.12, there are six private institutions from Region XI given Autonomous Status last October with a 2-year effectivity. To date, there are 71 institutions in the country that are granted Autonomous Status and 16 with Deregulated Status. UM was also handed citations for producing Top 1 examinees coming from the main and Digos campus in the March 2019 and September 2018 Licensure Examination for Teachers. UM won first place as well in the PACUCOA case study presentation and second place for the PACUCOA poster making contest with the theme centering on internationalization.
