
UM-HOSTED BALIK SCIENTISTS ADVANCE NANOTECHNOLOGY AND SMART SYSTEMS IN THE PHILIPPINES IN THEIR EXIT REPORT PRESENTATION
The University of Mindanao (UM), together with the University of St. La Salle (USLS) and the University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos (UNO-R) and in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) hosted the Exit Report Presentation (ERP) of two Balik Scientists (BS) last August 13, 2025 at the Cagliari Hall, UM Matina Campus, Davao City. These are Dr. Chosel P. Lawagon, a DOST-PCIEERD long-term BS hosted by UM, and Dr. Khino Parohinog, a DOST-PCIEERD medium-term BS hosted by UM, USLS, and UNO-R.
The ceremony was attended by the members of DOST-PCIEERD led by the Executive Director, Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, who gave a virtual message of congratulations to the two Balik Scientist. Also, Dr. Leah Buendia, the Undersecretary for Research and Development, graced the activity as the Keynote Speaker. From the Host Institutions, present are the representatives and officials of UM, USLS, and UNO-R. Representatives from the City Government of Kidapawan were also present.
University officials and government representatives both highlighted the importance of the partnership through the Balik Scientist Program (BSP), noting that hosting a BS not only enhances the University`s research capability but also inspires and cultivates faculty-researchers and students to engage themselves towards pioneering science. With the momentum generated by the Balik Scientist Program, UM envisions to position itself as a hub for transformative and impactful research that empowers communities and strengthens the Philippines` global standing in science and technology.
