UM-CHE and DOT Region XI Renew Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Growth
The University of Mindanao - College of Hospitality Education (UM-CHE) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region XI have reaffirmed their joint commitment to advancing sustainable tourism (SDG nos. 4, 8, 9, and 17) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 26, 2026. This renewed partnership highlights the shared goal of strengthening academe–government collaboration to support research, innovation, and workforce development in the Davao Region’s tourism sector.
The ceremonial signing, held at UM Matina Campus, emphasized the importance of aligning higher education and public service in addressing the evolving needs of the tourism and hospitality industry. The MOU paves the way for continued cooperation in research projects, training programs, capacity-building, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that equip students and professionals with skills suited to a dynamic tourism landscape.
Present during the signing were Dr. Joel B. Tan, Assistant Vice President for the Research and Innovation Center; Dr. Ma. Linda B. Arquiza, Vice President for the Research and Innovation Center; Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, Regional Director of DOT Region XI; Ms. Judy Colajio, Assistant Regional Director of DOT Region XI; and Dr. Dindo D. Silud, Dean of the College of Hospitality Education. Their participation underscored the commitment to transform partnership goals into real-world outcomes—fostering inclusive growth, sustainable development, and evidence-based tourism policies that strengthen the Davao Region’s competitiveness in the years ahead.
