From Hangar to Horizon: University of Mindanao Unveils Innovation Complex as a Landmark of Future-Driven Research
In a defining moment that signals a bold leap into the future, the University of Mindanao formally inaugurated its newly rebranded Innovation Complex on May 5, 2026—transforming what was once known as the Research Hangar into a dynamic hub of creativity, collaboration, and cutting-edge discovery.
The milestone coincides with the university’s 80th Founding Anniversary, making the unveiling not only a celebration of legacy but a powerful declaration of its forward-thinking vision.
Parallel to the institutional shift from the Research and Publication Center to the Research and Innovation Center (RIC), the Innovation Complex stands as a physical embodiment of this renewed and strengthened identity—one that places innovation at the core of academic and societal advancement.
The newly inaugurated complex houses an expanding community of research talents under the RIC and serves as a thriving base for many projects funded by the DOST Philippines , alongside hosted Balik Scientist under the DOST-Balik Scientist Program contributing global expertise to local research initiatives. It is also home to key facilities that strengthen the university’s research ecosystem, including the newly renovated Coleoptera Research Center, the expanded Center of Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions extension, and the newly established Printing and Binding Unit.
Together, these units reflect a strategic integration of knowledge creation, application, and dissemination—positioning the complex as a cradle of transformative ideas and globally relevant innovations.
More than just an infrastructure upgrade, the Innovation Complex represents the university’s commitment to global engagement and sustainable development. Anchored on the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly #SDG9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and #SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the initiative underscores a deliberate push toward fostering innovation ecosystems and expanding collaborative networks.
