Kadaiyahan 3.0 Brings Philippine and Latvian Scientists Together for Biodiversity and Environmental Research
Strengthening its commitment to scientific collaboration, biodiversity conservation, and international research exchange, the University of Mindanao (UM) successfully conducted Kadaiyahan 3.0: A Scientific Forum today at the Cagliari Hall, University of Mindanao-Matina on September 23, 2026.
The scientific forum was hosted by the Research and Innovation Center (RIC) through the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment (IBE), in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences–Environmental Science Department and the Coleoptera Research Center (CRC).
The event brought together researchers, academics, students, and international delegates in a platform for sharing scientific knowledge and advancing collaborative research on biodiversity and environmental concerns.
The forum was graced by Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joel B. Tan, Assistant Vice President for Business and Social Science Studies, and Dr. Charlyn T. Gorgonio, Director of the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment. Present as well as resource speaker, For. Rylle Añuber.
Adding an international dimension to the scientific gathering was the delegation from Daugavpils University (DU), Latvia, led by its Rector, Dr. Arvids Barsevskis, a renowned entomologist and biodiversity researcher. Joining him were Dr. Anita Rukmane-Barbale and Mr. Dmitrijs Trofimovs, Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines in Latvia.
The participation of the Daugavpils University delegation underscored the continuing scientific and institutional ties between UM and DU, particularly in the fields of biodiversity, entomology, environmental science, and research collaboration. Their presence also provided opportunities for Filipino researchers and students to engage directly with international experts and explore areas for future scientific cooperation.
At the heart of Kadaiyahan 3.0 was the recognition that biodiversity research goes beyond documenting species. It also requires sustained scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange, field-based investigation, and partnerships that translate research into meaningful contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development.
The forum likewise highlighted the role of academic institutions as spaces where researchers from different countries can converge, exchange perspectives, and build scientific networks. Through initiatives such as Kadaiyahan, UM continues to create avenues for its research community to participate in conversations that extend beyond institutional and national boundaries.
For the University of Mindanao, the conduct of Kadaiyahan 3.0 further reinforces its commitment to advancing research and innovation while strengthening international partnerships. Through the Research and Innovation Center and its institutes and research centers, UM continues to foster a culture of scientific inquiry, collaboration, and knowledge creation in support of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
As researchers and academic communities from the Philippines and Latvia gathered under one forum, Kadaiyahan 3.0 served not only as a venue for scientific discourse but also as a celebration of the partnerships that make collaborative research possible—connecting people, institutions, and knowledge in the shared pursuit of understanding and protecting the natural world.
The KADAIYAHAN 3.0 is the first activity of the 2026 ERASMUS+ Joint Scientific Forum and Expedition of the University Of Mindanao(Official Page) and Daugavpils Universitāte .
