About the Program
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at the University of Mindanao is a four-year, outcome-based degree program that strategically blends foundational general education in English, Mathematics, and Filipino with specialized professional courses such as Theoretical Foundations in Nursing and Nursing Care Management. Driven by the university’s mission to provide affordable yet globally competitive education, the program is meticulously designed to produce versatile graduates capable of portraying roles as professional nurses, clinical care providers, researchers, managers, entrepreneurs, and educators. The curriculum focuses on the essential pillars of health promotion, disease prevention, risk reduction, and health restoration, culminating in a practice-centered final year of extensive, supervised Related Learning Experiences (RLE) across UM’s network of CHED-accredited affiliate hospitals and community health centers. Throughout their residency, students develop core competencies in handling the health problems of individuals, families, and communities through higher-order clinical reasoning and effective collaboration within multi-professional healthcare teams. By mastering specific nursing outcomes—including ethico-legal standards, safe patient care for the sick and injured, and evidence-based research—graduates are uniquely prepared to excel in the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE). Furthermore, the program actively champions global sustainability, directly advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through optimized patient care, SDG 4 (Quality Education) via health literacy, and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by equipping UM graduates for the global healthcare labor market.
