The Center for Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions (CGNIES) celebrates its third year of continuing concerted efforts to use nano-innovations to solve environmental problems in Davao Region and Mindanao.
It was on August 19, 2022 that the center was inaugurated by no less than the President and CEO, Dr. Guillermo P. Torres, Jr. and the team from the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). From hosting 3 projects, now CGNIES hosted a total of nine (9) projects both funded by the DOST – PCIEERD and the DOST – PCAARRD. Above all of these projects, the center continues to capacitate faculty members and the students. Its significant best practice as well is the Mentorship on Engineering Research for Multidisciplinary Application and Innovations Dedicated for the STEM Strand or MERMAIDSS Program.
The Center, managed and led by Dr. Chosel P. Lawagon, is one of the 38 laboratories established under the DOST-PCIEERD Institution Development Program (IDP) that aims to provide financial support for the establishment and upgrading of research laboratories and facilities of academic and research institutions in the country.
